Summer Travel Tips for Dog Owners

Summer Travel Tips for Dog Owners

Jun 26, 2025

Summer’s here, and that means road trips, beach days, and plenty of outdoor adventures with your four-legged friend! Whether you’re exploring new trails or heading out for a weekend getaway, a little planning and the right essentials can make all the difference.

Here are a few simple tips to help make your trip fun, safe, and stress-free for both you and your pup!

1. Prep with a Vet Visit

Before you travel, make sure your pet is up to date on vaccines and flea/tick prevention. If you have any travel-specific concerns, like motion sickness or anxiety, talk to your vet about ways you can help your pet feel more at ease.

2. Pack The Essentials

Just like you, your pup needs a travel bag! Make sure to include:

  • Treats
  • Favorite toys
  • Leash/harness
  • Waste bags
  • ID tag
  • Cozy blanket or bed
  • Crate
  • Medications
  • Health records (especially for flights or crossing borders)
  • Food and water

Speaking of food and water…

3. Don't Forget Your Bark Bowls!

When you’re adventuring with your dog, convenience is key. Our all-in-one meals are not only delicious and nutritious, but they also come in lightweight, portable packaging that doubles as a bowl. Whether you're stopping for a roadside break or setting up camp, Bark Bowls make feeding time fast, easy, and mess-free. No scooping or packing extra bowls!

4. Keep Them Cool

Summer heat can be tough on dogs. Always have fresh water on hand, take breaks in the shade, and avoid walking on hot pavement. If your pup seems overheated, find a cool spot, offer water, and take it easy. Remember, our packaging can be used as a water bowl!

5. Plan Pet-Friendly Stops

Map out your route with pet-friendly hotels, rest areas, and parks. Many places now offer dog-friendly accommodations and outdoor dining options! Remember to stop every two to three hours for bathroom breaks, stretching, and water refills.

Wherever you're headed this summer, we hope it’s full of sunshine, adventure, and plenty of treats. Happy trails from all of us at Bark Bowls!
